MOLIT, selects eight universities for campus smart challenge

A project will be carried out to revitalize campus towns in cooperation with companies and local governments. Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it has selected eight universities for the campus challenge as a part of "Smart Challenge" projects in 2021.

It is the first campus challenge, and 81 universities across the country applied and received high attention of 10:1.

Hanshin University will develop video-oriented urban control networks such as CCTV into next-generation smart city integrated operation platform models that can collect, store, analyze and share urban data, and demonstrate personal mobility safety management services in Bucheon City.

Yonsei University proposed a demonstration project to enhance mobility and accessibility by increasing the utilization of personal mobility to solve the problem of stagnation in the commercial area of Sinchon Station. Students and communities will demonstrate solutions to revitalize commercial districts linked to PM, such as separating PM and pedestrians' movements and paying mileage to induce demand-responsive parking.

Korea National University of Transportation plans to establish a system linking self-driving shuttles and personal mobility to reduce campus travel time. This project demonstrates smart comprehensive mobility through multi-purpose personal mobility with various functions such as leisure, logistics, and transportation, and multi-purpose mobility stations (charging, repair, logistics storage, cultural space, etc.) that support it.

Kyemyung University will carry the business that demonstrate MaaS based on mobility on demand transportation system to solve the problem of commuting, which is due to lack of public transportation such as between Seongseo and Wolbae area in Daegu Metropolitan city.

The traditional market in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, is feared to have an electric fire accident due to aging facilities. Sungshin Women's University proposed a project to monitor electrical safety information through IoT, and predict electrical fire risks through big data AI analysis, or demonstrate a smart control platform that supports rational decision making.

Besides this, DongA University plans to demonstrate smart fire safety control service using digital twin technology. And Kongju University proposed to provide education, health care service and customized digital information for local community through living lab to solve digital information gap due to population decrease and aging in local small cities.
