Daegu Metropolitan City, establish an AI smart transportation system

Daegu Metropolitan City in Korea is to establish a smart transportation system with the Daegu Metropolitan Police. The two organizations signed a ‘working agreement for cooperation in establishing a smart transportation and social safety system’ on April 5th.

The cooperation includes establishment and operation of AI-based smart transportation systems, social safety systems for protection of the minority group, and joint use of big data such as transportation and safety.

First, they will cooperate to establish an AI-based smart transportation system to improve traffic flow in urban areas.

To solve traffic problems such as traffic jam on rush hour, they aims to install intelligent CCTVs at 250 intersections by 2023, collect traffic information data, and analyze the traffic information using AI to optimize traffic signal cycles and secure pedestrian safety.

For the successful introduction of the smart transportation system, the two organizations plan to create results such as securing pedestrian safety through various collaborations such as joint use of transportation infrastructure, operation of smart signal control, and connection of traffic big data.

It also calls for cooperative response in preparation for the future transportation such as self-driving and minimizing inconvenience for citizens by discovering various civic services. In addition, the government plans to push for organic cooperation with related agencies such as the Korea Road Traffic Authority.
