The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced that the second season of "Last Mile Citizen-led Living Lab," which is being promoted as part of the "2022 Smart City Innovation Technology Discovery Project" organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, completed successfully and it will start Season 3 next month.

The first season of the Last Mile Citizen-led Living Lab, which consists of a total of three seasons, was successfully demonstrated in September last year at Incheon Startup Park and Season 2 at Incheon Global Campus (IGC).

A total of 150 Living Lab participants used self-driving robots that are being demonstrated in their living environment and effectively found problems and improvements together through the Living Lab program.

In season 1, a total of 97 ideas and improvements were derived, including 68 processes, 20 hardware, and 9 innovative services, and companies are promoting service models and advancements based on them. In addition, in Season 2, a total of four teams from each field operated a specialized living lab program, and participants implemented their own improvement functions as prototypes (prototypes), including improvements derived from Season 1.

The project is aimed at solving urban delivery problems through a citizen-led Living Lab by operating indoor self-driving delivery robots linked to urban delivery platforms in real buildings by Incheon Techno Park, Yonsei University Industry-Academic Cooperation Group, Stanford Research Institute Korea, MESH Korea, and Bear Robotics. In this regard, the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) was finally selected for the national contest to discover smart innovation technologies in April last year.

Starting with the national public offering project, the IFEZ plans to continue to expand and operate the Smart City Living Lab program, which allows citizens to participate directly in demonstrating innovative technologies and solving urban problems by 2027.

Smart City Living Lab has already been used in various smart city projects overseas by citizens and workers who are the main agents of service discovery and improvement to solve multiple urban problems with smart technology.

Jang Byung-hyun, head of the planning and coordination division of the Incheon Economic Agency said "Smart City Living Lab is the core of the inclusive smart city promotion and the most important factor for people-centered smart city implementation," "Through this, the IFEZ will spare no effort to introduce innovative smart city services through civic, private, and public partnerships and create an innovative ecosystem for smart city startups."
