Daejeon Metropolitan City, Osiria in Busan, and Iksan have been newly confirmed as autonomous vehicle pilot areas. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will announce such information in November. The autonomous vehicle pilot zone is a newly introduced system under the "Autonomous Driving Vehicle Act," which took effect in May, and 14 districts, including Sangam and Jeju, have been designated three times so far and will be expanded to 16 districts in 12 cities and provinces nationwide.

A total of nine companies in six districts, including Seoul and Sejong, have already received temporary transportation licenses and provided demonstration services to the public, and eight districts, including Cheonggyecheon in Seoul and Pangyo in Gyeonggi Province, will also launch services in 2023, expanding opportunities for the public to see and experience autonomous cars in their daily lives.

The three newly designated districts are Busan, Daejeon, and Iksan, and the designation of the pilot operation zone is expected to strengthen urban competitiveness to attract the 2030 Busan World Expo, while Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, will improve transportation convenience in local small and medium-sized cities.

In addition, in the case of Daejeon, long-distance autonomous transportation services through the extension of the existing districts (Chungbuk and Sejong) will be applied in combination with BRT (Broad Express Bus System) services.
