KT has started to support Samsung Medical Center's creation of a cutting-edge medical environment by establishing an "e-Um 5G(5G specialized network)."
KT's Chungnam-Chungbuk Metropolitan Headquarters and Samsung Medical Center announced on August 7 that they have signed a business agreement for the 28GHz "e-Um 5G Construction Project."
"e-Um 5G" is a customized system that general companies, not telecommunication companies, can build networks directly for their own use in specific areas or buildings.
The two companies were selected as the final operators of the 28GHz industrial convergence diffusion business education field in the "5G+ convergence service project" organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The '5G+ Convergence Service Project' aims to discover and spread a convergence service model using the characteristics of e-Um 5G to the market.
The two companies decided to cooperate in providing realistic medical professional education services.
The surgical site conducted by the surgeon will be filmed with high-definition realistic images such as augmented reality (AR) glasses, endoscopy, and 360-degree cameras, and then transmitted to a medical education platform through e-Um 5G.
If a specialist watches this video in the professor's room and guides the surgical site, the doctors in the seminar room can access and learn the surgical video and guidance simultaneously.
After the pilot application of remote surgery education, Samsung Medical Center plans to expand the system to a realistic medical professional education service.
In 2019, Samsung Medical Center signed a business agreement with KT to build a smart hospital using a corporate 5G network. Last year, it continued the cooperation for digital transformation by signing a robot-based advanced intelligent hospital business agreement.
"Digital transformation using 5G technology is very important for growth in various fields such as medical care, education, logistics, and safety," and “We will continue to expand the scope of cooperation in various industries to create an ecosystem for 5G convergence services," said Lee Hyun-seok, head of KT's Chungnam-Chungbuk Metropolitan Headquarters.
