- Gangnam-gu was finally selected for the ‘2022 Ministry of Science and ICT Contest Project’ to prevent the missing of children and elderly people with dementia - Gangnam-gu is developing an artificial intelligence platform that can identify look and dressing, analyze behavioral patterns, and track objects of missing people in the video

‘Green Smart City’ Gangnam-gu, Seoul, has started to develop a ‘Public Safety Platform’ that analyzes CCTV images with artificial intelligence (AI) convergence technology to quickly identify the path of the missing persons and help them return home safely.

Gangnam-gu participated in the ‘2022 AI Convergence Public Safety Security and Rapid Response Support Contest Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and National IT Industry Promotion Agency to prevent the disappearance of children and the elderly with dementia and was finally selected as a demonstration institution in July.

Gangnam-gu has signed an agreement with three companies, △ One More Security △ Metrix △ Wonderful Platform, and is developing an artificial intelligence platform that can analyze the look and behavior patterns of missing people in the video and track objects from this month.

It will analyze the CCTV data screen secured by the Gangnam Control Center and establish a connection system with the National Police Agency within this year.

In the second stage of 2023, it will demonstrate its artificial intelligence platform by utilizing the security CCTV infrastructure of 6,140 vehicles operating in various parts of Gangnam-gu and implement full-fledged public services.

According to Seoul Gangnam and Seoul Suseo Police Station, the number of missing people in the jurisdiction was 1,211 in 2021, of which 399 cases, or 33%, were counted as children (266 cases) and elderly people with dementia (133 cases).

In particular, the population aged 65 or older in Gangnam-gu last year was 15% of the total population, which is on the verge of an ultra-aging society, raising the need for a safe return system in preparation for the increasing disappearance of the elderly with dementia.

Gangnam-gu mayor Cho Seong-myeong said, “This project is the first empirical case of applying artificial intelligence convergence technology to crime prevention CCTV, and it is expected that it will be possible to secure a golden time for locating missing persons and advanced early response through the development of intelligent tracking technology.", and “From now on, Gangnam-gu, the 8th popularly elected district, will actively develop and utilize innovative technologies for the 4th industry to make Gangnam-gu safe and happy for its residents.”
