Seoul City is going to prevent safety accidents in advance by raising the safety of construction sites with smart safety technology.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on April 13 that it will introduce smart safety technology to public construction sites worth more than 30 billion won (20 billion won for construction work), in order to create a safe Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government will apply four types of smart safety technologies such as ▲remote inspection ▲access warning alarm for heavy construction equipment ▲control of worker location ▲environmental sensor system to construction sites. Also, integrated control systems, mobile apps, and wireless communication systems will be introduced.
The "remote inspection system" remotely checks the site based on a 360-degree rotatable video camera and warns workers of risk factors. In addition, the "access warning alarm system for heavy construction equipment" warns workers and equipment drivers of the danger of access to the heavy construction equipment.
The “worker location control system” monitors and manages the location of workers working nearby by AP (Access Point). Furthermore, the 'environmental sensor system' detects the concentration of oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide at the construction site and displays them on the electronic display board.
Since February 2022, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been piloting smart safety technologies in construction projects such as underground roads and upper park projects of Gukhoe-daero.
Smart safety technology is applied first to 32 construction sites worth more than 30 billion won in order size by Seoul Metropolitan Government from April 2022.
The construction sites which are currently being planned will be designed by reflecting smart safety technology, and the technology will be applied to all construction sites after 2023.
In addition, systems such as automatic determination of accidents such as falling based on video during high place work and smart safety rings will be introduced after reviewing through a testbed.
Lee Jung-hwa, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Infrastructure said, "With the pilot introduction of smart safety technology, safety management and supervision will be possible without blind spots.", adding “In particular, we expect to be able to break off repeated conventional type accidents”
