"Stop smoking! Smart Streetlights", which adopts a Smoke detection system in the streetlights in the parks or school zones, took the grand prize in the 'Smart City Idea Contest' held by Yongin City for the citizens.
Yongin City operates a civic participation group called "Smart City Living Lab" to create a smart city with citizens and announced the results of the "Smart City Idea Contest."
Yongin City's Smart City Living Lab participants are consisted of about 40 people, including citizens, ICT experts, and related government officials, and have sought solutions using ICT technology through four workshops from January 15 to February 12.
Yongin City Smart City Living Lab has suggested various ideas such as 'Variable Bus Distribution System' which can control bus dispatch by grasping information of moving population, 'Safe Bicycle' which recommends nearby attractions and restaurants with AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) functions and helps safe driving, and 'Smart Bus Stop' which provides cooling, heating and mobile phone charging service with its own energy accumulated in solar power.
Meanwhile, a total of 175 ideas were received at the Smart City Idea Competition for Yongin citizens, which was held from January 10 to 28.
Yongin City selected 'Stop Smoking! Smart Streetlight', which installs a cigarette smoke detection system on streetlamps in children's protection areas or park facilities, as the winner.
The Runner-up Prize winner was a 'customized smart benefit recommendation service through application', which shows the citizen benefits of Yongin City at a glance, recommends personalized benefits. The Excellence Prize is a 'smart service for preventing unauthorized trash dumping' by QR codes, with the 'support for Yongin City education platform using metaverse technology' application’ that can listen to lectures in real-time and practice through VR devices.
Yongin City is establishing a smart city plan with the aim of getting approval from the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in June this year, and plans to build a smart city base and promote a service project that citizens can experience.
“We sincerely thank many people who have provided ideas to create smart cities,” said Yongin Mayor Baek Gun-ki. “We will build a smart city where high-tech industries and jobs are overflowing and citizens’ quality of life are enhanced by utilizing the creative ideas from citizens.”
