Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province, is pushing for a full-fledged transformation into a smart city. The city has prepared a "five-year intelligent informatization (2022-2026) basic plan," a smart city creation plan, and has also established a "smart city department" to carry out the plan.
The basic plan contains 24 implementation tasks in the fields of safety, transportation, environment, and culture.
Uijeongbu City is planning to establish a 'Smart IoT Risk Facility Management System' for the safety of citizens. To this end, the city will attach IoT sensors to old buildings, steep slopes, and collapse risk areas that are more than 30 years old.
In addition, the city decided to promote a "Smart Pole" pilot project to create a safe distance from crime in Happiness-ro, the central street of Uijeongbu. Smart poles are facilities that integrate LED streetlights, public Wi-Fi, closed-circuit (CC) TVs, and displays.
At the same time, Uijeongbu City decided to promote the establishment of a smart Living Lab portal that allows citizens to take the initiative in proposing projects and continuously feedback their experience in using them.
Moreover, Uijeongbu City has decided to create a digital experience zone in senior welfare centers to narrow the information gap between the digital vulnerable and plans to expand AI CCTVs and IoT pedestrian paths and build smart gates in areas at risk of river flooding.
An official from Uijeongbu City said, "We will actively promote life-friendly services so that citizens can feel the smart city through digital transformation by providing advanced intelligent information services."
