Bucheon City has completed the construction of a "smart senior citizen center" equipped with IoT medical devices and indoor smart farms and will start pilot operations next year.
Bucheon city(mayor Jang Deok-cheon) signed a business agreement with the Korean Senior Citizens' Association Wonmi, Sosa, and Ohji Association of Bucheon city, the Ojeong Senior Welfare Center, and the Bucheon Medical Welfare Social Cooperative to operate the Bucheon-type Smart Senior Citizen Center program.
The "Bucheon-type Smart Senior Citizen Center" was selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's contest in March this year and completed the establishment of the system in 45 senior citizen centers with 920 million won in government funding.
Bucheon City's Smart Senior Citizens Center features IoT medical devices and indoor smart farms that can be controlled by tablet PCs.
Senior citizens can communicate in real-time with program providers such as senior welfare centers through ICT video platforms and manage health data self-directedly, such as measuring blood pressure, blood sugar, and body composition every day with IoT medical devices.
In addition, the IoT indoor smart farm allows the elderly to grow and harvest fresh vegetables 365 days a year.
Under this agreement, Bucheon City plans to operate various senior citizen center programs starting in the new year to support happy retirement life by utilizing smart infrastructure built-in 45 senior citizen centers.
Considering that the average age of senior citizen center users is 82, Bucheon City plans to hire, educate, and deploy smart senior citizen center managers through jobs for the elderly so that there is no inconvenience in using the system.
Bucheon Mayor Jang Deok-cheon said, "I hope the Smart Senior Citizen Center not only to be operated smoothly but also to become a solid health care network for the elderly in Bucheon."
