It was found that 91% of passengers who used the Autonomous Driving mobility pilot service evaluated it as "innovative" and 93% of them responded that they would "reuse the service.”
On November 2, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Roh, Hyung-wook) held a presentation on the performance of the Autonomous Driving mobility service pilot project that has been carried out for the past two years in Baegot-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi-do.
Following the presentation, the Ministry also held a demonstration of demand-responsive mobility services for five routes in Baegot New Town in Siheung, Gyeonggi-do.
According to a survey of about 1,250 passengers who used Autonomous Driving mobility pilot services from October last year, 91% of users answered that the services were innovative and 93% of them were willing to reuse them.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that if such Autonomous Driving mobility services are commercialized in the future, it is expected not only able to provide services to areas lacking public transportation, but also to resolve traffic blind spots.
The autonomous driving mobility service is being operated as a late-night safety shuttle for residents who are uncomfortable with public transportation in the middle of the night in the Siheung Baegot New Town area of Gyeonggi-do by building autonomous car production and infrastructure together with the Seoul National University Industry-Academy Collaboration Team, Automos Co., Ltd. and LG U + from May last year to the end of this year.
During the project period, a total of 7 autonomous vehicles (6 Ioniq and 1 E-county) were produced, and a demand-responsive service was developed and launched through a reservation system based on its application ‘Majung’.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport operated seven autonomous vehicles on five routes (Oido Station to Baegot New Town), and also held a demonstration event of mobile app-based autonomous driving mobility services.
In particular, the entire process of calling autonomous vehicles, controlling autonomous vehicles, and providing services were demonstrated through a user-based boarding call application to demonstrate the possibility of commercialization of autonomous driving mobility services.
"Autonomous driving mobility service is a key service that can increase public acceptance of self-driving vehicles as well as transportation efficiency, and we will establish a systematic foundation to establish itself as a common service through cooperation with the private sector," said Eo Myeongso, Director of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to implement various policies to ensure that autonomous driving services can be commercialized as soon as possible and will expand the pilot driving zone for autonomous vehicles to provide conditions for private companies to freely demonstrate autonomous driving services and actively support them to continue to commercialize them.
