Gyeongju, with a thousand-year history, will be revived as the nation's first city to lead personal mobility which is a key element of smart cities.
Gyeongju City has secured 12 billion won out of 39.9 billion won which is to be spent on the "Personal Mobility Platform Core Technology Development and Demonstration Project" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for a full-fledged project.
The Personal Mobility Platform Core Technology Development and Demonstration Project, which will be promoted from this year to 2025, is a project to localize batteries, motors, and controllers, which are key components of personal mobility. Gyeongju City, companies including Korea Automobile Research Institute, Korea Smart EMobility Association, Gyeongbuk TP, The H Networks, 12CM, LG Electronics, Master Car Management, platform construction industry, and local auto-based parts companies will join the project.
Gyeongju City plans to invest 8 billion won to support local companies to develop core parts such as motors, batteries, and controllers, develop battery management systems (BMS) and integrated platform-linked parts, build integrated payment solutions and services management platforms, and secure product reliability as well as safety.
Gyeongju City plans to build infrastructures for demonstration, assembly, production, and sales by types of mobility and localize core parts such as motors, batteries, and controllers to be installed in 4 types of mobility: electric two-wheeled vehicles for delivery, electric three-wheeled vehicles for delivery and tourism, and electric bicycles for tourism and movement.
Based on such demonstration projects, Gyeongju City plans to produce 1,000 units from four kinds of domestic personal mobility, including electric two-wheeled vehicles, in the region from 2026 and export them overseas along with domestic distribution.
Gyeongju City's "Personal Mobility Platform Core Technology Development and Demonstration Project" will be operated by the Korea Smart Mobility Association and will be promoted by Gyeongju University Engineering Museum under the supervision of The H Networks.
Gyeongju Mayor Ju Nak-young said, “We have established infrastructures such as the demonstration, production and sales facilities of the personal mobility industry, and have set up opportunities for the local economy to take a leap forward by attracting blue-chip companies, strengthening corporate technology competitiveness, and creating jobs.”
