Samsung Electronics will offer 172 cases of royalty-free technologies to 99 small and medium-sized enterprises suffering from the prolonged COVID-19 in line with the efforts of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Seung-wook Moon).
Samsung Electronics' free transfer of patented technologies is expected to help companies strengthen their digital capabilities and transform into eco-friendly companies in the future, as it includes many technologies in the 4th industry and the green new deal, such as digital, artificial intelligence (AI), energy-saving and processing, etc.
Especially, many companies that are being included in this program have proposed various innovative product development and process improvement plans such as 3D technology-based virtual environment and content production, big data and AI technology-based service provision, and energy process efficiency improvement.
Including the technology sharing this year, Samsung Electronics has provided 784 patents to 391 companies since 2015. The company also plans to open its patents to SMEs that are aiming to secure technology competitiveness, through continuous participation in the government’s technology-sharing program.
■ Technology sharing case A
Company A, which is a 3D spatial information company, applied to get 3D expression and security technology in virtual reality to improve its Digital Twin technology.
Using Samsung Electronics' technology, Company A is planning to build more efficient smart factories, implement virtual reality and expand consulting on-site construction in various fields such as hospitals, logistics, disasters, and cultural properties.
■ Technology sharing case B
Company B, which is a company specializing in reprocessing and alternative fuel waste recycling, applied for the process treatment technology on ion transfer devices and control method for Lithium-ion battery recycling.
Utilizing the free shared technology, company B plans to develop innovative processes and build mass-production facilities for environment-friendly treatment of waste batteries, which discharge is expected to start after 5 years in line with the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market.
