The Seoul Metropolitan Government and Peru's capital city Lima signed a "Smart City Cooperation Business Agreement Ceremony" online on November 25 to share Seoul’s smart city policies with Lima.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to support Lima to establish mid-to-long-term development strategies and strengthen its capabilities for the development of three smart city-related areas such as △ citizen safety △ public transportation infrastructure and △ digital.
In particular, it plans to share various smart city policies in Seoul, including △ CCTV integrated monitoring system, smart pole, △ TOPIS, improvement of traffic signal system, △ S-Dot, a smart Seoul system that connects and manages countless data points such as the public Internet and people, objects, and the environment.
Lima, the capital of Peru, which has the sixth-largest economy among 33 Latin American countries, has been experiencing various urban problems such as security and traffic problems due to rapid urbanization. In order to solve this problem, as it hopes to adopt a Seoul-type smart city model, Seoul has discussed close cooperation with Lima with the support of the official residence.
Through this business agreement, the Seoul Metropolitan Government expects Seoul to contribute to strengthening urban competitiveness as a prestigious city respected by the international community by transferring its experience and tips in establishing world-class smart city policies to Lima, Peru.
Seoul Mayor, Oh Se-hoon said in an online welcoming speech, "We will actively share Seoul's smart city policy and operation tips with Lima. We hope Lima to be reborn as a smarter city based on Seoul's smart city policy."
Lima Mayor Jorge Muñoz also said, "Seoul's smart city model is a role model for Latin American countries. We hope that the two cities will strengthen cooperation in the smart city sector through this business agreement."
Meanwhile, the event was attended by Korean Ambassador in Peru Cho Young-joon, Peruvian Ambassador in Korea Daul Matute Mejia, and officials from the city government, expressing expectations for cooperation between the two cities in smart cities.
"We will refer to the international status of Korea Smart City including Seoul and hope that the cooperation between the two cities will contribute to the achievement of the goals of mutual prosperity between Korea and Peru," said Cho Young-joon, the Korean ambassador to Peru.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is sharing Seoul's excellent policies such as transportation and smart cities with overseas cities using ODA resources. So far, 89 policies worth 804.8 billion won have been exported to 60 cities and institutions in 34 countries abroad.
In response to recent requests from Ukraine's Kiev and Ecuador's Guayakil to share policies in the Seoul smart city sector, it is promoting excellent policies to go overseas projects and plans to expand cooperation with overseas cities in the future.
