Samsung Electronics is promoting the implementation of "smart home" through "home care managers" that help users manage home appliances by diagnosing them with AI.

Home Care Manager is a "one-stop self-care" service that diagnoses home appliances based on Samsung Electronics' SmartThings app, informs them how to take action, and provides services such as analysis of consumer usage patterns, notification of consumables replacement, and guidance on purchase links.

Among the newly released Samsung home appliances since 2018, home care managers can be used if they are equipped with Wi-Fi functions.

■ ‘Home Care Manager’ provides a solution guide as well as fault diagnosis of 11 products

In addition to the existing general diagnosis, the 2021 home care manager diagnoses a total of 11 products, including kitchen appliances and air conditioners, such as refrigerators and dishwashers, as well as analyzes various problems and provides the reasons and solutions.

In the case of refrigerators, internal and external temperature changes are compared and notified if there are abnormal signs, and the dishwasher informs the smartphone of diagnoses such as "water supply is not smooth," "heater inspection is required," and "leakage is detected."

Moreover, in the case of washing machines, phrases such as "the drainage area can freeze due to low temperature" appear in winter. It also provides guidance such as 'Disconnect the frozen drain hose or drainage filter and put it in warm water at 50 ~ 60 degrees' to help customers to solve the problem.

In particular, the "Self-Care Guide" is also provided as a video, so it can be easily used, and if it is a problem that users cannot take action on their own, it connects to the service center.

In addition to various diagnoses, it also provides △ cleaning notifications, △ filter life information and prediction of replacement time, △ replacement timing of consumables, and △ purchase links, making it possible to solve household problems smartly.

■ Smart Home Care Manager service users tripled in a year. By the end of the year, the service area will be expanded to 40 countries.

Samsung Electronics reported that the number of home care managers' users is increasing significantly due to the recent increase in preference for contact-free services.

The number of users of home care manager worldwide has tripled to 1.4 million this year as of the end of September, with the number of domestic users reaching 610,000.

Samsung Electronics has tripled the number of items that can be diagnosed through home care manager, from 62 last year to 202 this year, and plans to expand to 400 by the first half of next year.

Since its first introduction in Korea in August 2019, home care manager has been provided in 20 countries, including the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, and New Zealand, and plan to expand the service area to 40 countries by the end of this year.

Yoo Mi-young, the executive director of Samsung Electronics' household appliances division, said, "We will expand one-stop self-care services based on SmartThings to more countries to support more people enjoy smart homes."
