The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Roh, Hyung-wook) will hold the 「2021 Future Architecture Design Competition」 in collaboration with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation to respond quickly to changes in the architecture paradigm and discover new ideas for future architecture.
The design contest, which task is the architecture design for LH public distribution blocks (S-1BL, 869th generation, 52,379㎡) in Janghang District in Goyang City, plans to promote a "future living space platform with new lifestyles" to present future life improvement directions and provide a platform for future’s sustainable technology.
The government plans to focus on the design of multi-layered living spaces for various demands caused by social changes such as Covid-19, the specialization in shared spaces for community activation, and the application of smart technology as well as BIM in response to the 4th Industrial Revolution and ‘2050 carbon neutrality'.
In order to induce more architects to participate, the competition will be conducted through a general architectural design contest, and public announcement on August 5 to receive works by September 24. The winners will be announced in early October.
The government will grant the Minister's award and design rights to the winner and the LH President's Award and design compensation to the 2nd place winner.

"The future architecture design competition is expected to be a good opportunity to try new attempts, including smart architecture, through deregulation through special building zones," said Jung-hee Eom, an architectural policy officer at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. She also said, "We will actively reflect the new ideas from this competition to related policies in the future."
Meanwhile, the future architecture design competition held for the first time last year was based on "realization of smart architecture residential complexes" in line with social changes such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, and the competition contributed a lot to discover and foster growth engines in architecture.
