Gongju City will invest 1 billion won to create 180 "Smart Senior Citizen Centers"

Gongju City has been selected for the ‘2023 Smart Village Supply and Diffusion Project’ by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The Ministry of Science and ICT's project is being promoted to enhance digital transformation, competitiveness, quality of life, and balanced development in the community by supporting the introduction of smart services based on intelligent information technology and ICT technology.

In a public offering process conducted for local governments across the country, a total of three locations were selected in Chungnam, including Gongju City.

Gongju City secured 800 million won from the state budget and invested a total of 1 billion won by adding 200 million won, which is the city's own budget, to push for the "Gongju City Smart Village Senior Citizens' Center Health! Happiness! Platform" project by 2023.

Specifically, Gongju City will establish a remote video and multilateral two-way communication system specialized in the senior citizen center and provide health & educational support and play culture services through the remote video system.

In addition, it will establish a welfare service support system that enables multilateral communication in real-time, such as Gongju City, each Eup/Myeon/Dong’s administrative welfare center, and senior citizen center.

Moreover, the city plans to increase synergy by linking the Digital Town Creation Project, which was selected as a public offering project by the Ministry of Interior and Safety this year.

The digital town construction project includes building 20 smart senior citizen centers in the district, and a total of 180 senior citizen centers, including further 160 senior citizen centers, will be transformed into smart senior citizen centers.

Mayor Choi Won-chul said, "Gongju City, which has entered a super-aged society, has a very large proportion of senior citizens spending much time in senior citizen centers." and "Through this project, we will use it as an opportunity to systematically support various services such as health, education, counseling, and leisure as well as to bridge the digital information gap for the elderly."
