MOLIT holds an agreement ceremony to jointly utilize national spatial data

The government has started to spread digital twin technology and revitalize new industries based on national spatial data.

On the 7th, the "2021 National Spatial Data Joint Use Agreement Ceremony" was held by Multiple Institutions; Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs, Cultural Heritage Administration, Korea Institute of Construction Technology, Korea Institute of Telecommunications and, etc.

This agreement is part of a policy to utilize spatial data that each institution has. It is expected that it will make a big contribution to establishing a 'space data dam' so that it can build and utilize spatial data more sophisticatedly and developing new services and establishing future industrial ecosystems based on this.

The reason why the government pushed for the agreement was that there was a high need to establish a "joint utilization system" so that data can be shared by unifying complex connection methods between national spatial data production and utilization agencies.

In particular, it seems to establish a system for updating variable data, secure data updates, and prevent duplicate spatial information construction through intersystem linkage.

For this reason, MOLIT plans to expand the joint utilization agency system by identifying spatial and attribute data produced by each institution through an annual survey.

It is expected to manage bridge safety more efficiently and activate new industries such as agricultural consulting, 3D analysis of flooded areas, by jointly utilizing spatial data such as farm map, bridge-tunnel specification, cultural property information, and 3D urban model.

Baek Seung-geun, chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Committee of the Ministry of Land from Infrastructure and Transport, said, "Spatial data is a key resource to accelerate the realization of the digital twin ecosystem." And he added, “We will continue to collaborate and communicate closely with the participating organizations so that we can activate integrated spatial data."
