KT announced that it would run a test operation of the "autonomous driving robot chair" at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul for three weeks. The wheelchair-shaped robot is expected to be of great help to people with mobility difficulties.
Visitors to the DDP can ride and experience the Smart Robot Chair for three weeks until the 11th of next month and visit the NFT special exhibition at the Design Lab 3F Design Hall.
The self-driving smart robot chair is a wheelchair-shaped boarding robot. It supports the viewing of passengers while autonomously driving along a predetermined course while carrying a person. For the safety of passengers, workers, and other visitors, the technologies such as obstacle collision detection, automatic stop function, and route bypass technology were applied.
The autonomous robot chair is a combination of KT's communication and robot platform, Daedong Mobility's hardware, and Koga Robotics' autonomous driving technology.
KT plans to move to the commercial stage soon after upgrading its products based on pilot operation data.
The autonomous smart robot chair supports the movement of people with mobility difficulties in various places such as airports, railway stations, hospitals, hotels, and exhibition spaces such as art galleries and museums.
Lee Sang-ho, head of KT's AI Robot Business Group, said, "KT is focusing on spreading robot services which will bring innovation to various areas," adding, "We will make it easier for customers to use robot services in everyday life."
