The National Geographic Information Institute of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Director Sagong Ho-sang) announced that it signed a business agreement to build 1/1,000 electronic maps with 33 local governments this year, and it will hold a "1/1,000 Electronic Map Advancement Strategy Seminar" in Seoul on the 29th for industries and local governments related to promotion strategy and ways to upgrade map to realize the “Digital Platform Government.”
The accuracy of 1/1,000 electronic maps which includes all kinds of road information and safety facilities such as fire hydrants and has up to 9 times more information than 1/5,000 electronic maps, will be very high, presenting less than 70cm difference from the actual locations.
It began to be built for safety management of underground facilities after the gas explosion in Ahyeon-dong of Seoul and Daegu in the 1990s, but recently, it has diversified its role into base information on digital platforms that collect and share various digital information such as autonomous driving, smart mobility, and drones in the era of the 4th industrial revolution.
At the seminar, it shared a plan to spread the case of Seoul, which expanded its area and shortened the renewal cycle while reducing the budget for building 1/1,000 electronic maps using the administrative information system.
With only 12% of the existing 1/1,000 electronic maps nationwide, and even this requires a 7% annual revision rate, this would be a good solution to ensure up-to-date while reducing the burden of the budget.
At the business agreement ceremony, it signs a business agreement with 33 local governments that build 1/1,000 electronic maps this year with the National Geographic Information Institute to continue to cooperate in the efficient construction and maintenance of 1/1,000 electronic maps.
Each local government will collect information that is changing from time to time, and the National Geographic Information Institute will work together to enhance the usability of the map by increasing the update of the map while reflecting the change detection content on 1/1,000 electronic maps.
