The Busan Metropolitan Government announced the launch of the "Digital Innovation Busan Special Committee" on the morning of January 4 and announced that it will hold its first meeting.
The special committee was chaired by Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon and consisted of about 40 experts, including related companies such as smart cities, ICT, AI, and urban planning, university professors, and association officials.
The Special Committee will serve as a comprehensive control tower, including collecting various opinions related to the 4th Industrial Revolution to establish ▲ Digital Innovation Vision and Strategy ▲ Digital Innovation Major Policies and Technology Advisory ▲ Finding and Fostering Future Growth Motor Industries ▲ Establishing a cooperative system with other organizations.
At the first meeting, the Busan Metropolitan Government will announce the Busan Digital Economy Innovation Strategy 2030 and present a specific blueprint for a full-fledged leap forward as a leading digital transformation city.
The "Busan Digital Economy Innovation Strategy 2030" was established by Busan-related departments, the Busan Institute of Industrial Science and Innovation (BISTEP), Busan Techno Park, the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, and the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency after a long discussion process.
The innovation strategy includes ▲ the leap to 20th place in the world's smart city ranking ▲ nurturing 20,000 digital creative talents ▲ achieving annual sales of 20 trillion won in new digital industries, and Busan plans to accelerate the realization of the "Green Smart City Busan" vision by 2030.
Looking at the details of "Busan Digital Economy Innovation Strategy 2030," it plans to actively support the development and commercialization of core technologies such as AI, big data, and 5G communication and expand the proportion of R&D investment in the digital economy from 20% to 40%.
In addition, it plans to invest 1.5 trillion won in new digital technology start-ups by cultivating 2,000 innovative and creative talents every year to lead the digital economy by establishing a convergence graduate school and supporting on-site training for new technologies.
Also, the proportion of automation using smart manufacturing robots will be increased from 10% to 80%, and sales of related industries will be raised from the current 11.8 trillion won to 20 trillion won by expanding the digital new industry ecosystem, including digital integration support.
Lastly, the city plans to create a digital economy innovation base that will serve as an outpost for digital economic growth and spread to suit the characteristics of the eastern, central, and western Busan regions, and gradually expand the ratio of digital technology-based start-up venture companies from 13% to 23%.
In particular, fostering the digital economy is expected to serve as an important momentum to change Busan's future economic map in 2030 as a new growth engine that will bring a drastic rebound to the Busan economy, which is suffering from social structural changes such as a decrease in the youth population and a low growth trend.
The Busan Metropolitan Government said it plans to carry out detailed tasks of digital innovation strategies as planned and regularly check implementation at the "Digital Innovation Busan Special Committee," and will also enhance the implementation and civic sentiment of digital economic innovation by actively reflecting the members' ideas and voices.
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, "To reflect the rapid digital transformation, we need to move to Green Smart City as soon as possible through the launch of today's special committee and Busan Digital Economy Innovation Strategy 2030 to foster new industries and change Busan's economic constitution."
