Korean National Geographic Information Institute declares the first year of "Digital Twin Land"

The National Geographic Information Institute (Director Sagong Ho-sang) held a declaration ceremony with the National Territory Satellite to mark the second anniversary of the opening of the National Territory Satellite Center.

As one of the top 10 core tasks of the Korean version of the New Deal, the National Geographic Information Institute is building a spatial information infrastructure that drives the future, including 3D spatial information for digital twin land, detailed road maps for autonomous vehicles, and aerial shooting.

Following the declaration ceremony, seminars were held on the theme of the ①opening of the era of the territory satellite and the ②digital twin land data strategy, followed by expert presentations and discussions attended by the government, local governments, academia, and the media.

First, in the first presentation session under the theme of 'Opening the Age of National Territory Satellite', the National Satellite Center presented the full-scale operation and utilization plan and service strategy of the successful launch of the national satellite in March, and the image information photographed by the national satellite will be processed with high-precision satellite image.

In the second presentation session, the National Geographic Information Service presented the status of the establishment of the spatial information DATA of the National Geographic Information Service for the realization of digital twin land, future directions, and changes in the role of surveying and strategies for smart construction.

Lastly, the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute announced the possibility of using the 'space information convergence for digital twins' which can be used by various institutions through the production of customized spatial information.

After the announcement, Park Jong-hyun, vice chairman of the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, had a meeting with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, academia, industry, and media to get opinions on various fields about the development direction of the national satellite and digital twin land.

"In order to realize digital twin land, we will implement a ubiquitous space DATA service environment that can access spatial information anytime and anywhere through the establishment and standardization of space DATA. In addition, we will strengthen the development of technology for user-friendly image service based on the successful launch of the national satellite and precise satellite image, we will try our best to develop it."
