Emergency reporting system by "Smart Emergency Bell" for single households will be introduced

- Government developed the "Wireless Communication Device (Beacon) Emergency Bell Reporting System" to solve public safety problems in cooperation with local governments - 1.833 billion won (1.466 billion won from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, 367 million won from Gyeonggi-do) will be provided for the system.

A "Smart Emergency Bell Emergency Reporting System" will be introduced nationwide through communication networks and location information to prevent disaster accidents by securing rapid response and golden time once the crime occurred.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security (Minister Jeon Hae-cheol) said it has developed and operated a pilot program of a "Beacon Emergency Bell Emergency System" which directly reports to the police when a button is pressed by vulnerable social groups such as single households or stores.

A beacon is a wireless communication device that can automatically recognize and transmit data to a smart device in a short distance.

To this end, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will invest 1.833 billion won (1.466 billion won from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and 367 million won from the Gyeonggi Province), along with the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency, the Korea Institute for Construction and Living Environment Testing and Contech Inc. to build a system to prevent and respond to crimes in single-person households and vulnerable households.

The "Beacon Emergency Bell Emergency Reporting System" registers users’ personal information (name, address, cell phone number, etc.) in advance with the beacon terminal, and can automatically report through the radio frequency network, Wi-Fi network, or mobile phone connected by the Mesh Network.

There are two types of emergency bell, and the fixed type sends out the location information (address) which is registered in advance through a communication repeater as soon as a button is pressed.

Portable type is very small to carry when going out, and when you connect the app installed on the smartphone with Bluetooth communication and press the button, the app automatically reports along with the location information of the mobile phone.

The development of the beacon emergency bell reporting system was launched in 2020 by proposing a research project in Gyeonggi-do as part of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security's "regional customized disaster safety problem-solving technology development support project" as crime vulnerability emerged as a social problem.

Previously, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety selected Ansan-si, Suwon-si, and Uman-dong as pilot areas in cooperation with local police stations to test the system's field applicability and effectiveness and has recruited 1,381 participants (748 from single households, 434 from single-person stores, and 199 from children's facilities) for the demonstration.

Kim Jae-heum, a disaster cooperation policy officer at the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, said, "We plan to actively discover various R&D projects that apply advanced IT technologies and expand budget investment to prevent accidents and solve problems."
