The address system (K-address) developed in Korea now reflects international standards and extends overseas.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (Minister Lee Sang-min) announced that Korea's address system would be reflected in the International Standard (ISO), and it plans to support overseas expansion by promoting the Korean (K)-Address Brand.
To this end, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held a forum to listen to related experts, come up with a plan to reflect ISO standards on the Korean address system, and discuss strategies to support domestic companies' overseas expansion.
Since the full use of the road name-based address system in 2014, Korea has been evaluated to be able to display the most accurate locations than other countries.
The Korean address system has the advantage of dividing the road into 20 meters and giving odd numbers on the left and even numbers on the right to predict the distance, and the vacant lots and mountainous areas along the road without buildings can also be marked.
In addition to these advantages, the Korean address in the ISO this time includes ▲ 3D route guidance (ground, elevated, underground, and internal roads), ▲ and location predictability of contacts (building number x 10m = corresponding distance).
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety explained that it plans to submit the Korean address system to the International Standards Organization (ISO TC211) by the 25th of this month and it is expected to be adopted as ISO 19160-2 by the end of next year.
In the future, the government plans to nurture K-Address as a brand and expand it to Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and ISO.
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is a non-profit, private participatory international organization that studies and establishes compatibility and technical standards for addressing space information data.
