Busan Metropolitan City and the Korea Data Center Council decided to collaborate to create a green data center integrated complex.

The Busan Metropolitan City announced on April 7 that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Data Center Council, a major consultative group for data centers in Korea, on the creation of a green data center integrated complex and the related technology development.

The agreement aims at fostering the cloud industry by creating eco-friendly data center complexes in Busan Eco Delta City at Gangseo-gu, Busan. The Busan Metropolitan City and the Korea Data Center Council plan to actively cooperate to ▲ attract data center companies, ▲build green data centers and develop technologies, and ▲train manpower for data center operation.

The 5th data center with 100,000 servers will be built in Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan(EDC General Industrial Land Area 2) with a site area of 177,080㎡(53,567 pyeong).

In particular, it plans to attract and build green data centers using eco-friendly new renewable energy such as ▲ hydrogen fuel cells (adjacent to the 110MW hydrogen fuel plant, electricity will be available in 2022~24) ▲ LNG gas chiller/heater facilities, or LNG self-generation, ▲ water-cooled air conditioning facilities using waterworks and river water, ▲ supply of heating to nearby buildings by utilizing data center waste heat

The Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency will support attracting domestic and foreign companies and revitalizing data center-related industries based on its experience in building the first Meeum Cloud Data Center pilot complex in Korea in 2012.

Joong-hyeop Kang, chairman of the Korea Data Center Council, said, "We will work with Busan City, which is leading the ICT industry, to further develop the capabilities of both organizations, and to help Eco-Delta City's data center cluster become one of the leading examples of eco-friendly data center complexes to contribute to the future development of the data center industry."

Busan Mayor Hyung-joon Park also said, "We will focus our capabilities not only on the growth of local companies but also on attracting offshore companies through cooperation with industry leaders."

Meanwhile, the Korea Data Center Council is a private data center association, which was established in 2018 to promote ▲cooperation between major data centers and related industries (ICT equipment, infrastructure, services), ▲joint discussions on major issues (environmental changes, policy changes), and ▲official channels for government policy proposals.
