Seongnam City is getting attention as it has been selected successively for government public offering projects related to the creation of smart cities.

The selected project is to smartize the △ region-friendly living SOC (social infrastructure) of the Ministry of Science and ICT and establish a △ digital-based safety management system for old and dangerous facilities in the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.

△Community-friendly living SOC smartization is a project to expand the library infrastructure in the original downtown of Sujeong and Jungwon, and will invest 1.22 billion won (including 920 million won in state funds) by November.

Seongnam-si plans to establish remote video education systems in 10 libraries, including Jungang, Bundang, Seohyeon, Gumi, Pangyo, Pangyo children, Bokjeong, Haeoreum, Sujeong, and Jungwon libraries.

In particular, it will cooperate with 70 local care centers to create an environment in which caring children participate in various cultural education courses such as reading, discussions, and writing without visiting the library.

The Jungwon Children's Library plans to introduce augmented reality (AR) musical reading culture program to watch musical performances played by the protagonist of a fairy tale in augmented reality using smart devices to increase interest and educational effects in reading books with a connection with the library reading culture program.

Meanwhile, 1.4 billion won (including 700 million won in state funds) will be invested in establishing a digital-based safety management system for old and dangerous facilities by December.

Seongnam-si will install Internet of Things (IoT) sensors that can detect signs of danger in 90 public facilities such as old bridges, underground roads, and overpasses in the region.

The facility management department of the city hall will monitor the status of each facility in real-time in 3D. With the establishment of a preemptive response system, it is expected to increase the effectiveness of preventing large-scale disaster accidents by saving cost and time, due to on-site inspections of facilities and building collapse.

In addition, Seongnam City is promoting projects to create a smart city that citizens can feel in various fields such as self-driving smart libraries, advanced intelligent transportation systems, and artificial intelligence guidance on civil complaints.

An official from Seongnam City said, "We will create a smart city that balances the original city center area of Sujeong and Jungwon with Bundang and Pangyo areas."
