- Kakao Mobility and Volocopter signed a business agreement - Based on MaaS operation experience, it aims to commercialize multimodal mobility services that encompass ground and aviation

Kakao Mobility announced on November 23 that it has signed a business agreement with Volocopter, German urban aviation mobility (UAM) aircraft manufacturer, to prepare to upgrade and commercialize Korean UAM service models.

Since July, the two companies have been studying domestic UAM service market demand and scale, selecting UAM prospect paths and vertiports (VertiPort, UAM vertical takeoff and landing facilities), conducting case studies on domestic service models, and evaluating safety and certification standards, and plan to finalize joint research at the end of this month.

Kakao Mobility announced that it will present a UAM operation model optimized for the Korean market after analyzing the research results by February next year based on joint research.

The two companies said they aim to commercialize multimodal mobility services that cover ground and aviation and plan to mobilize all autonomous driving technologies, spatial information, and map technologies.

In particular, it is said that it will be possible to move continuously to the starting point - VertiPort 1 - VertiPort 1 - destination when using UAM service with only one Kakao T app.

“We expect the UAM market to start full service in 2025,” said Yoo Seung-il, CTO of Kakao Mobility. “We will implement UAM services optimized for the Korean market. We will work with various companies in Korea to build a K-UAM business model,” he said.

“This partnership will showcase the strength of UAM service by linking with the MaaS service of Kakao Mobility,” said Florian Reuter, CEO of Volocopter.
