The Smart Construction Challenge 2021, a festival that showcases and communicates smart construction technology, will be held from September 1 at Metaverse.
The Smart Construction Challenge 2021, organized by five organizations including the Korea Institute of Construction Technology, was set up to discover and support smart construction technologies using advanced technology based on the fourth industry.
"Smart Construction Challenge," which marks its second anniversary this year, will be held as a technical contest and exhibition of 74 teams in five areas: Smart Safety (15 teams), Construction Automation (12 teams), Robotics (15 teams), IoT, AI and Sensing (15 teams), and BIM SW Live (17 teams) who were selected through pre-contest and screening in last May.
The opening ceremony, which was broadcasted online from 10 a.m. on Sept. 1, the technology performance of Boston Dynamics Group 4 Walking Robot Spot, a global robot company acquired by Hyundai Motor Group, was presented.
The technology contest will be divided into five categories from September 1 to September 3 and a total of 74 technologies from 91 institutions and companies will compete. The contest will be attended by presenters (two representatives of each technology) and judges (five or so in each field) in a separate studio, and presentations and technical demonstrations will be held for 15 minutes per team (10 minutes presentation, 5 minutes question and answer).
△Smart Safety Field
Under the supervision of the National Land Safety Management Agency, platform technologies such as Smart Safety Monitoring Team (SW) using Spot, a four-legged walking robot, and Smart Safety Management Platform (HW) such as Industrial Fall Protection Airbags will be presented.
△Construction Automation Field
Under the supervision of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, participants will showcase automation technologies such as 3D printing construction technology, remote control-based smart control, excavation automation technology, and automated construction management technologies such as ‘smart drone automatic control and construction management system’ and ‘drone data platform.’
△Robotics Field
Under the supervision of the Korea Highway Corporation, the contest will be held for construction robots that have been developed, such as 'AI floor beauty robots', 'smart drilling robots', drones for autonomous flight inspection and wireless painting drones', and 'web platform technology for drone infrastructure inspection'.
△IoT/AI/Smart Sensing Field
Under the supervision of the National Railroad Corporation, various types of IoT and AI technologies that can be used in construction fields such as 'IoT-based slope wireless monitoring system', 'slope measuring device and control technology', and 'bridge maintenance technology using smart IoT technology will compete.
△BIM SW Live Field
Under the supervision of the Korea Institute of Construction and Technology, the contest will take place in two categories, including the BIM SW development program using BIM and actual field applications such as "Shinan-sanshun Project" and "Daesan-Dangjin 4 Tool,”. It is expected to contribute to excellence, discovery, and performance diffusion through this competition.
The 10 technologies (2 by field) selected as the best technology in this event will be awarded a total of 150 million won in prize money with an award of the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and 25 technologies (5 by field) selected as excellent technology will be awarded a total of 130 million won with each agency award.
In particular, the excellent technology that won the Ministerial award will be able to give priority to the construction site testbed or receive market support from four public institutions including Korea Highway Corporation through technology matching through "National Transportation Enterprise Support Hub".
Moreover, 10 ~ 12 people will be chosen for preliminary founders or early founders of less than 5 years when participating in the "2022 Smart Construction Start-up Idea Competition" and "2022 Smart Construction Innovation Enterprise Program" for excellent technology. To support consulting, researcher matching, prototype production support, free entry of smart construction support center, technology commercialization of small and medium-sized enterprises, performance improvement and improvement, various privileges will be given, including support for KRW 100 million (which can be changed in size of support).
Meanwhile, the technology exhibition will be composed of booths that introduce 74 technologies in 5 fields in the same way as the technology competition on the 3D exhibition convention metaverse platform.
In addition, watching at the Metaverse-based exhibition hall, business activities can be conducted through business card exchange, voice/video chat, and up to 10 people can participate in the meeting room for biz-matching to have a secure meeting.
Lee Sang-Joo, a Director-General for Technology Security Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport said, "This event is the biggest smart construction technology contest and exhibition in Korea. We will not hesitate the support to estimate the level of smart construction technology in Korea and to help companies with technology lead the construction industry.”
