Double-decker electric bus will run in provincial areas

Double-decker electric buses, which have been operated only in the Seoul metropolitan area, run in provincial areas.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Won Hee-ryong) and Metropolitan Transport Committee (Chairman Lee Sung-hae, MTC) announced on the 24th that two Double-decker electric buses will start operating on the B1 route (former No. 1001) from Daejeon Station to Osong Station via Sejong City.

As the first case of the introduction of a double-decker electric bus, which had been operated only in the Seoul metropolitan area, the bus will be expanded to other metropolitan areas other than the Daejeon area in the future, the MTC explained.

The newly introduced double-decker electric bus has 70 passenger seats (11 on the 1st floor and 59 on the 2nd floor), which has been enlarged by 30 seats compared to the existing seat bus (41 seats). It is expected that the severe congestion of the route during rush hour will be alleviated.

In particular, the newly organized double-decker electric bus is expected to contribute to improving the convenience of transportation for mobility handicapped citizens as it is the only low-floor bus among domestic buses.
