Digital twin society to be launched

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Won Hee-ryong) announced that it will launch a 'Digital Twin Society' to develop and spread digital twin technology. The digital twin is a technology that implements real objects in the same three-dimensional model as the virtual world and supports various decisions by applying analysis, prediction, and optimization through various simulations.

The digital twin society will act as an improvement system between domestic digital twin experts in Korea, the mountain, the government, academia, and research.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will launch a 'Digital Twin Society' to enhance digital twin utilization. The 'Digital Twin Society' will provide a forum for discussion and knowledge for the convergence of urban and spatial information fields, and will be used as a communication window to listen to the difficulties of the private sector.

The Digital Twin Society consists of about 50 people, including the government, Korea National Land Information Corporation, technology utilization agencies (local governments, etc.), related fields (spatial information, urban planning, ITS, etc.), industry, academia, and government experts, and digital twin businessmen from young businessmen to elders.

In addition, the Korea Land Information Corporation will be designated as a secretary and will be operated without a division and partition considering the characteristics of the digital twin, which is a fusion and complex field. We will hold a quarterly meeting and establish the direction of digital twin land.

The digital twin society was launched on October 7 and discussions on future operation plans were held and experiences and difficulties were shared during the first pilot project of the digital twin country over the past year.

“With the launch of the Digital Twin Society, digital twins can be used as a foundation technology to solve various urban and social problems, and at the same time, the first step to achieve a digital change in Korea has been set up,” said Kang Joo-yeop, a policy officer at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In addition, it plans to cooperate closely with industry, academia, and government so that the utilization of digital twins will be improved in various fields such as traffic, environment, and disaster response, and Korea will become a leading digital twin country.

The results of the first demonstration project for digital twin land will be shared with the public through seminars and exhibition booths at the Smart Land Expo (11.4-6 days, KINTEX, Ilsan).
