The Hyundai Motor Group will build the world's first 'smart cargo terminal' at Incheon International Airport.
Hyundai Motor Group signed an agreement with Incheon International Airport Corporation and Hanjin Group on developing automation technology to build a future logistics platform at Incheon Airport.

The business agreement is a part of a step-by-step plan for the development of future smart cargo terminal infrastructure established by Incheon International Airport Corporation in April last year.

In order to cope with the rapidly changing aviation logistics industry according to the plan, Incheon International Airport Corporation is now making a digital transition by introducing state-of-the-art automation technology in the high-cost logistics environment centered on manpower.

Based on the business agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will collaborate with Incheon International Airport Corporation and Hanjin Group to develop automation technology optimized for the logistics industry in Airside, an aircraft take-off and landing area including Incheon International Airport's runway.

Through this, Hyundai Motor Group and three other companies aim to develop the world's first smart cargo terminal using the 4th industrial technology at Incheon International Airport around 2025.

Hyundai Motor Group plans to verify the possibility of using mobile technologies such as automation technology, unmanned autonomous driving, and wearable robots in Incheon International Airport accumulated through the construction of the smart factory, and to test whether the technology can be applied in the entire aviation and cargo areas.

“As a Mobility Solution Provider, we will continue our efforts to make our customers’ time more valuable beyond the existing automotive manufacturing sector,” said a Hyundai Motor Group official.

Hyundai Motor Group will take the lead in establishing a future mobility logistics infrastructure in the Incheon International Airport cargo terminal so that the digital conversion of the domestic logistics industry can be achieved as early as possible.

Specifically, the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group plans to verify the possibility of using mobile technologies such as automation technology, unmanned autonomous driving, and wearable robots in Incheon International Airport accumulated through the construction of smart factories, and to use them as a stage to test the availability of the technology throughout the aviation and cargo areas.

Hyundai Motor Group said it would continue its efforts to make customers' time more valuable beyond the existing automobile manufacturing area as a Mobility Solution Provider.
