KT announced that it has developed "real-time population data" that can check the number of real-time populations in major regions (POI) using big data from mobile phone base stations. KT will provide the data to Seoul Metropolitan Government.

KT's real-time population data is designed to aggregate and process big data on mobile phone signals collected by major regional base stations for five minutes to estimate the population existing in a specific area in real-time.

Using this, each local government will be able to establish policies and prepare a response system by checking the congestion of the population in major places in real time quickly and proactively.

For example, it can be used to reduce the possibility of group infection through real-time monitoring and proactive quarantine measures for areas with high congestion in preparation for the spread of COVID-19. In addition, real-time weather information and population congestion information for each branch can be combined in weather disasters such as heavy rain and heavy snow to check facilities and use them for manpower and facility placement.

KT provides real-time population data of 50 places in Seoul, including tourist attractions, Hangang Park, and major commercial districts.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is developing and opening the world's first real-time Seoul City Data that combines real-time data from the public (traffic, environment) and private (communication) by converging this real-time population data with public data in transportation and environment. Through this, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to establish a "data-based quarantine safety response system in daily life."

The city opens data through APIs on the Seoul Open Data Plaza site and provides real-time on-site information services by adding real-time population prediction AI model-based population prediction information developed with AI company "White Scan."

The Seoul Metropolitan Government also plans to visualize real-time city data through the Seoul tourism website "Visit Seoul" in the second half of 2022 and provide it to citizens.

Choi Joon-ki, head of KT's AI/BigData business division, said, "We will contribute to improving the safety and quality of life of citizens by expanding the scope of real-time population data to disasters, safety, environment, transportation, and security."
