KT and LG Electronics cooperate to enhance the 'Service Robot' business

KT and LG Electronics decided to collaborate on the R&D and commercialization of next-generation service robots.

KT and LG Electronics signed a business agreement at LG Science Park on August 17 to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic service robot industry, attended by officials from the two companies, including Song Jae-ho, vice president of KT's AI/DX convergence business division, and Jang Ik-hwan, vice president of LG Electronics' BS business division.

Through this business agreement, the two companies will discover new business opportunities through the combination of LG Electronics' advanced robot manufacturing capabilities and KT's service sector capabilities, establish a cooperative system for next-generation robot R&D and a collaborative platform to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic service robot industry and cooperate on government robot tasks.

Starting with the △ "AI Hotel Robot," which was first introduced in December 2019, KT is commercializing robots in various fields such as △F&B (food and beverage) delivery robots, △ AI cares robots for elderly care services, △ quarantine robots to prevent infectious diseases, and △ autonomous outdoor delivery robots.

KT's strengths, nationwide communication, and control infrastructure, and skilled technical personnel, are playing a significant role in expanding the robot business.

Starting with the pilot operation of △'LG CLOi GuideBot' at Incheon International Airport in 2017, LG Electronics has recently released 7 new autonomous driving-based next-generation logistics robots such as △‘LG CLOi CarryBot,’ two types of △'LG CLOi ServeBot'(drawer type/shelf type), △'LG CLOi BaristaBot', △'LG CLOi ChefBot', and △'LG CLOi UV-C Bot'.

KT plans to spread LG Electronics' various service robots into customers' lives as fast as possible and cooperate in developing new robots based on accumulated customer experiences.

The two companies are discussing and promoting specific cooperation plans, while also planning to cooperate to develop the domestic robot industry.

"We hope that our cooperation to contribute to service robots approaches customers' daily lives more closely and the domestic robot industry takes a leap forward," said Song Jae-ho, vice president of KT's AI/DX convergence business division.

Jang Ik-hwan, vice president of LG Electronics' BS business division, said, "We expect more customers to experience LG Electronics' customized robot solutions optimized for various spaces through this collaboration."
