SK Telecom announced on July 29 that it signed a business agreement with Seoul National University for industry-university cooperation based on data.

SKT signed an agreement with the Smart City Global Convergence Innovative Talent Training Research Group and the Intelligent Eco science Specialization Graduate School at Seoul National University's Agricultural Life Science University.

Through this agreement, SKT will provide data on the floating population of its big data AI analysis solution Geovision to research teams and graduate schools related to educational research projects at Seoul National University and support data analysis and utilization education.

SKT and Seoul National University will develop environmental technology to build green infrastructure for climate crisis response, promote on-site education and lectures on the use of floating population data in the smart city field, identify tasks for joint business development, exchange human resources and information through industry-university cooperation, and share cooperation results.

In addition to the business agreement with Seoul National University, SKT has continued to manage ESG, which contributes to the creation of social value by providing data on floating population based on communication information to various institutions and academia.

Especially, SKT has provided floating population data in various fields such as COVID-19 real-time anti-virus and anti-virus effect analysis of government ministries and local governments including the Disease Control Agency, education and research for domestic and foreign universities, Korea Institute of Land, Infrastructure and Security Policy, and research for the establishment of disaster and disaster policy.

SKT has also won the 2020 Presidential Award for its contribution to COVID-19 by providing such floating population data.

“We hope that SKT’s know-how in data utilization will help Seoul National University’s research on smart city and eco-science,” said Jang Hong-sung, head of advertising/data CO at SKT. “SKT will continue to contribute to creating social values, including research and policy-making in various fields, through floating population data.”

“We will be able to analyze big data on the floating population through a business agreement with SKT, and we expect it to be a good example of industry-academia-research cooperation in the field of smart city,” said Ryu Young-ryul, a professor of system engineering at Seoul National University, who is in charge of the Smart City Global Convergence Innovative Human Resource Development Education Research Group.
