3.3 billion won of "Innovation Convergence Campus" will be opened at Korea Maritime & Ocean University

The Busan Metropolitan Government will invest 3.3 billion won to create an innovation convergence campus for new marine businesses at Korea Maritime & Ocean University.

This project is organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and supported by the Korea Institute of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to build a joint convergence campus centered on local universities and relocation public institutions near innovative cities to strengthen cooperation between industry and academia.

Public institutions scheduled to the Dongsam Innovation District in Busan include the Korea Institute Of Ocean Science & Technology, the Korea Maritime Institute, Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency, and the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service.

A Busan city official said, "The project was well-received in terms of the project's future prospects, location in the innovative city, and marine-related infrastructure, so it was selected as the only innovative city and received KRW 1.65 billion.

Busan plans to build a new marine industry innovation convergence campus in September in cooperation with nine universities in the region, including Kyungsung University, Dongmyung University, Dongseo University, Dongui University, Pukyong University, Busan Science and Technology University, Silla University in Busan, and also public institutions such as the Korea Maritime Institute.

The Busan Metropolitan Government plans to revitalize education and research in the marine new industry in connection with innovative cities by creating an innovative convergence campus for marine new industries, and to establish an advanced marine-specialized industry ecosystem in cooperation with former public institutions and local universities.

An official from Busan said, "Creating a high-tech marine-specialized industry-academic ecosystem in the new marine industry will greatly help local companies strengthen their competitiveness," adding, "We will continue to actively support government projects so that local companies and universities can grow together."
