SK Telecom opens the National Theater of Korea on its metaverse platform

SK Telecom (CEO Yoo Young-sang) announced that it opened the ‘Welcome to National Theater of Korea’ Land at its metaverse platform ‘ifland’ and will present various cultural events in cooperation with the National Theater of Korea.

The National Theater of Korea is Korea's representative cultural and artistic institution, which was founded in 1950 and has been accompanied by the history of Korean performing arts. It is leading contemporary creative performances based on traditional arts. SKT signed a business agreement (MOU) with the National Theater of Korea in December last year with the aim of digitally converting and spreading cultural and artistic content for future generations.

SKT and the National Theater have implemented various iconic facilities of the theater such as ‘Haeoreum Theater’ and ‘Cultural Plaza’ in the ‘Welcome to National Theater’ Land of ifland. The ifland ‘Welcome to National Theater’ Land provides an environment where you can enjoy various events through the stage and screen installed in indoor and outdoor theaters.

In addition, 10 new avatar dance motions created with the motif of beautiful choreography of the National Dance Company of Korea are provided for all users.

SKT and the National Theater celebrated the opening of the National Theater Land and held the opening ceremony from 19:30 on April 29.

The opening ceremony of the ifland ‘Welcome to National Theater’ land consisted of three exclusive groups of the National Theater, △ the National Changgeuk Company of Korea, △ the National Dance Company of Korea, and △the National Orchestra of Korea. The ifland Avatar Dance Team 'IFLEGEN D' will present avatar dance, which reinterprets the choreography of the National Dance Company.

Moreover, the two organizations will provide tickets for performances of △the National Changgeuk Company’s Chunhyang, △the National Dance Company’s the Whirlwind, and △ the National Music Orchestra’s Soso Concert, which is being performed at the National Theater through participating events for the participants of the opening ceremony of the National Theater Land.

In the future, SKT will cooperate with the National Theater for regular events more than twice a month, including 'Performance of the Month' and 'National Theater Education Program' at the ifland ‘Welcome to National Theater’ Land.

“We are delighted to be able to create the National Theater, the ifland the ‘Welcome to National Theater’ Land to showcase Korea’s best-performing arts,” said Yang Maeng-seok, head of SKT’s Metaverse CO. “We will continue to provide high-quality performances and contents combined with metaverse,” he said.

“With the opening of the National Theater in the ifland, the performance field will also be introduced with a new form of contents by combining metaverse,” said Kang Sung-koo, director of the National Theater (acting director). “We will provide performances and educational programs specialized for metaverses in the future.”
