Announcement of the achievements of the R&D project of the "intelligent unmanned automatic smart logistics system", jointly supported by Busan City and the Ministry of Science and ICT - Busan Port Authority's "Container Alignment Status Monitoring Safety Technology" - ▲Using intelligent CCTV and LIDAR sensors ▲Corner casting shooting adjacent to upper and lower containers ▲Application of artificial intelligence learning techniques such as deep learning ▲Automatic classification of alignment status such as 'normal', 'dangerous', and 'very dangerous'

Busan City announced it has filed a patent for Container Alignment Monitoring Safety Technology through the R&D project of the 'Intelligent Unmanned Smart Logistics System' jointly supported by the Busan Port Authority and the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Container alignment monitoring safety technology monitors the loading and alignment status of containers in real-time and automatically analyzes the safety of loaded containers based on artificial intelligence to prevent safety accidents in ports.

This technology uses intelligent CCTV and LIDAR sensors to monitor corner casting adjacent to upper and lower containers and apply artificial intelligence learning techniques such as deep learning to automatically classify and inform the alignment conditions such as 'normal' (green), 'dangerous' (yellow), and 'very dangerous' (red).

Terminal operators in Busan Port are expected to effectively prevent safety accidents such as the collapse of containers due to inaccurate alignment between upper and lower containers when using this technology.

In Europe, the safety standards for container loading are defined as a mismatch range of up to 25mm in width and up to 35mm in length, but there is no clear standard in Korean ports. Busan Port Corporation plans to introduce monitoring safety technology and to establish a system for safety standards.

In addition, the city will develop container loading monitoring equipment with patented technology, install it in regular operation vehicles such as yard tractors and port patrol cars, and build a cargo loading safety monitoring system through real-time testing within this year.

"If Busan successfully develops a core technology and builds a system for smart logistics, it is expected that Busan will be able to strengthen its position as a hub port for transshipment logistics in Northeast Asia," said Park Hyung-joon, mayor of Busan. “We will continue to support it so that our vision can be realized.”

Meanwhile, the patented technology was developed as a joint research and development (R&D) project of 'Intelligent Unmanned Automated Smart Logistics System' by Busan City and the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by Busan Port Authority.
