Jeonju Hanok Village and Gosadong area will be transformed into ICT-based 'smart shopping streets'.

Jeollabuk-do and Jeonbuk Cultural & Tourism Foundation announced on March 15 that they will promote Jeonbuk-type smart shopping tourism promotion project for Jeonju Hanok Village and Gosadong shopping street after being selected as the 'Shopping Tourism Vitalization' public offering project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Jeonbuk Province, the Foundation, and Jeonju City plan to jointly carry out the project by investing 2 billion won from the early stage of the project to discover customized service contents and select a consortium of participation.

First, they will build a web-based shopping tourism individual service on shopping streets and provide comprehensive services from December.

Once the service base is established, tourists can receive various shopping services in Jeollabuk-do through the smartphone platform.

On the platform, it is possible to look around the stores with virtual reality (VR) and buy the desired product right away. Also, it is possible to use augmented reality (AR) to wear clothes, accessories, precious metals, etc. virtually. Purchased products can be stored at the store as well as designated as the desired date and place.

In addition, nearby shops, restaurants, and sightseeing spots based on tourists’ current location will be introduced. Optimum Wayfinding is also provided with 3D maps to the destination.

The platform is also provided 4 kinds of languages: Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese so that foreigners can enjoy shopping without any inconvenience.

“The smart shopping business will ultimately help the revitalization of local tourism,” said Yoon Dong-wook, director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Jeollabuk-do. “We will make efforts to make Jeonbuk tourism grow one step further by complementing the language and information difficulties that foreigners feel uncomfortable mostly with.”
