Chuncheon City will implement 'Citizen Participation Carbon Neutral City' through the 'Smart City Challenge' project this year.

Chuncheon City was selected as the target site of the Smart City Challenge in 2022 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and announced that it will implement a citizen participation carbon zero city with the investment of 12 billion won including government expenses for the next two years.

The Smart Challenge Project of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is a smart city construction project in which local governments, companies, and citizens solve various urban problems such as traffic, safety, environment, and welfare together with innovative technologies and creative ideas.

Chuncheon City was selected as a preliminary project site in April last year and citizens participated in the preliminary project, which invested 1.5 billion won in government funding, △to build an integrated platform for e-mobility carbon credit and rewards, △a methodology for e-mobility emission rights linked to internal combustion engines, and △a carbon reduction solution for taxi sharing services.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has evaluated the results of the Smart City Challenge preliminary project in Chuncheon City and recently selected it as the target of the main project. Accordingly, Chuncheon City will be supported with 12 billion won (National Cost 6 billion won, Fertilization 6 billion won) over the next two years to spread the smart city business.

Chuncheon City plans to upgrade smart city-related solutions and build a public open data hub based on the results of the preliminary project demonstration.

In addition, it plans to expand services such as △ KORAIL-linked autonomous driving mobility service, △ electric motorcycle battery sharing ecosystem construction.

In particular, it plans to expand citizen participation to complete the service and to implement a 'carbon neutral city' which is based on a citizen participation carbon credit platform.

“Being selected to Smart City Challenge 2022 is a meaningful achievement that citizens and companies have achieved together,” said an official from Chuncheon City. “We will create a sustainable smart city by achieving carbon neutrality and implementing eco-friendly clean transportation city.”
