Bucheon City, a "national-certified smart city," is drawing attention as it is taking a step ahead of strengthening citizens' capabilities by preparing a "smart space" to bridge the digital competency gap and grow together.

As one of the core projects of the smart city challenge, Bucheon City opened the Smart Sharing Rooms, a key hub center for the growth of Bucheon citizens' digital capabilities, in Samjeong-dong, Wonmi-dong, Wonjong-dong, and Sosa Bon-dong, followed by the establishment of Smart Sharing Center at Anjunggeun Park last year.

Bucheon City's "Smart Sharing Room" is a space where citizens fostered as civic tutors educate other citizens, settle the digital divide, to grow together by strengthening smart citizens' competencies.

Bucheon Smart Citizen Tutor, who completed intensive digital education such as in-depth education and field training last year, will work as a professional instructor in smart sharing rooms in each region.

The Base type Smart Sharing Room will organize a two-week course for basic education on strengthening smart capabilities, such as how to use smartphones, for elderly people (55 years old or older) who are not familiar with digital culture among the digitally vulnerable groups. The class will be divided into the morning class(10:30~12:30) and the afternoon class (13:30~15:30).

Other than the class time, the rooms will be used as spaces for consultation on smartphone utilization and promotion of smart city challenge business service. In the future, it will also expand into operating spaces for sharing jobs related to smart cities and living labs to solve local problems.

"We will take care of digitally excluded citizens through the smart sharing room in the region," said Bucheon Mayor Jang Duk-cheon. "We will provide close support for the spaces to make them grow into open spaces for smart citizen competence."
