The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Roh Hyung-wook) selected four logistics service demonstration projects and two logistics pilot cities as "Digital Logistics Demonstration Complex Construction Projects" to establish and support a smart logistics system this year

This demonstration project is implemented to improve the convenience of people's lives and settlement conditions by discovering and supporting leading projects to solve urban logistics problems using smart logistics technology.

The "Digital Logistics Demonstration Complex Construction Project" is divided into △ "Logistics Service Demonstration Project" and △ "Logistics Pilot City Construction Project", based on the target and contents.

‘The Logistics Service Demonstration Project’ demonstrates new logistics services that combine various technologies to improve traffic congestion and environment in existing cities, and the ‘Logistics Pilot City Development Support’ establishes logistics plans including logistics facilities, logistics networks, and specialized projects for new cities.

The support project was selected by comprehensive evaluation on the necessity, feasibility, and willingness to promote the project through written documents and presentations by experts, for businesses that applied through public offerings for two months(‘21.12~’22.2).

In consideration of the project size, the selected local government will receive up to 2 billion won in government expense per project to demonstrate new services and establish a logistics plan for the region.

In addition, Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, which was selected as a project management institution, will support the selected projects to be carried out stably and engage in spreading activities such as finding excellent implement cases.

The main contents of the selected project are as follows.

① Seoul: Win-win•Innovation•Smart future logistics city High Seoul!

Seoul city plans to demonstrate joint delivery services to homes by creating a "small joint delivery center" by utilizing the public space of residents.

Joint delivery service refers to a method in which logistics operators such as couriers deliver to the joint delivery center, and local residents and young people deliver goods from various logistics operators at once to the home.

In addition, Seoul city plans to introduce the ‘Micro fulfillment Center’, a small logistics warehouse that enables fast delivery by releasing products stored immediately as soon as it is ordered using idle spaces in traditional markets such as Noryangjin and Majang-dong to demonstrate services that immediately deliver fresh products such as agricultural and marine products.

② Incheon: One-day delivery service based on the shared logistics network

Incheon city plans to demonstrate joint delivery services for consumers and small business owners by delivering goods between cargo vehicles using parking lots without logistics warehouses based on real-time communication technology in Songdo International City.

③ Gimhae: Establishment of a biopharmaceutical cold chain logistics system

Through the introduction of the Smart Shared Logistics Center, Gimhae city plans to establish an efficient cold chain logistics network for medicines, a specialized industry, and establish a platform that links nearby pharmaceutical companies and medical institutions.

④ Iksan: Establishment of logistics services for village e-commerce ‘Da-yiroum’

Iksan city plans to solve the difficulty of bringing parcels directly to the destination for rural villages with many elderly people through tour cargo collection and link them with local e-commerce platforms.

Meanwhile, the main contents of the project selected as the 'Digital Logistics Pilot City Creation Project' are as follows.

① Changwon: Implementation of a logistics innovation city with a multidimensional spatial logistics system.

Changwon city plans to establish a future-oriented logistics system such as underground logistics systems and eco-friendly delivery services, reflecting the location characteristics of Masan Marine New Town, which is under construction.

Masan Marine New Town is being created as an artificial island (1,071,000㎡), and can only be accessed by two bridges with the downtown (Changwon).

② Seoul: Establishment of a digital logistics plan linked to the reorganization of Yongsan Electronic Shopping Center

Seoul city plans to implement a digital logistics system that can respond to the rapidly increasing demand for daily logistics in line with the need to reorganize Yongsan Electronics Shopping Center (distribution facilities) to revitalize the new downtown.

The selected projects will be launched in mid-March after consultation with local governments and participating organizations on specific implementation schedules to establish various service demonstrations and logistics plans.

Koo Heon-sang, logistics policy officer of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The selected projects have proposed innovative logistics solutions using smart high-tech technologies, and logistics pilot cities for the future were also selected." Regarding the selection project, he said, "The public and private sectors, such as local governments and logistics companies, plan to systematically promote it, and we will continue to strive to create a smart logistics system so that people can enjoy a convenient and safe life."
