The Korea Forest Service (Director Choi Byung-am) conducted a "joint training of drone forest fire extinguishing units nationwide" for the first time in the area of Expo Bridge in Seo-gu, Daejeon, from 16th to 18th to strengthen its capabilities from forest fire monitoring to extinguishing using drones.

The drone forest fire extinguishing unit is an extinguishing resource for forest fire response systems based on ICT, which is useful for monitoring forest fires and residual fire extinguishing in the night and rugged mountainous terrain and plans to refine drone extinguishers by developing fire extinguishing capabilities optimized for forest fire situations.

The large-scale drone extinguishing team's joint training this time is also meaningful in preparing a rapid on-site dispatch system for initial extinguishing in the event of a forest fire and deriving improvement measures such as advantages and disadvantages of drone input and operation.

Advanced forest fire extinguishing units based on information and communication technology (ICT) such as 10 drone fire extinguishing squads (13 forest fire extinguishing drones, 10 reconnaissance drones, and 1 forest fire command vehicle) mobilized in this training can respond quickly to changing forest fire situations by showing the forest fire extinguishing process in real-time in the drone image system mounted on the forest fire command vehicle of the forest fire field countermeasure headquarters.

The Expo Bridge Training Center in Daejeon Metropolitan City, the joint training center, has a forest in front of it, allowing various training for evolutionary power tactics, so it plans to be used as a permanent training center in the future.

In particular, it plans to intensively analyze problems that appeared in the past, such as the effective evolution method of compressed aerosols considering environmental conditions (topography high wind speed, etc.), the distance to limit the spread of airspace, the danger of non-visible areas (disconnection of signal video), the possibility of cluster evolution, and the analysis of high-voltage radio interference in forests, to draw improvement measures and to increase safety and to expand the input of drone evolution units nationwide.

“We will develop an optimized forest fire response strategy based on ICT, such as the rapid dispatch and initial evolution system, so that the people can feel safe from forest fires in the wake of the joint training of the drone forest fire extinguishing team,” said Choi Byung-am, head of the Korea Forest Service.
