The "Smart Village" in Eco Delta City, a national pilot smart city in Busan, will begin operation from early next year.

On December 24, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Busan, and the Korea Water Resources Corporation celebrated the moving in of residents of the smart village in Busan Eco Delta City and shared their smart village operation plans.

Busan Eco Delta City, designated as a national pilot city for smart cities in January 2018, is currently under construction by the Korea Water Resources Corporation and Busan City Corporation (Busan Metropolitan City Corporation).

In particular, Smart Village is a detached housing complex (56 households) built in the Busan National Demonstration City and consists of a space where citizens can experience various smart services.

The selection of residents of Smart Village was held for 34 days from November 11 to December 14 last year, and the final 54 households were selected, while 2,982 households applied.

When the move-in is completed on January 15 next year, residents will pay only for management costs for five years and participate in the Living Lab program to experience and improve innovative technologies applied in the complex.

Smart Village will provide more user-friendly services based on experience and improvement opinions in using innovative technologies in five areas: healthcare, robots, smart farms, water, environment, and life & safety.

About 40 services applied to Busan Smart Village are major technologies that will be expanded and applied to smart cities in the future, and representative services are as follows.

▷Smart water purification plant
Supply efficiency and water quality stability were secured by directly producing and supplying various water sources from distributed water purification plants located nearby instead of from far away.

▷Smart Energy
Carbon-neutral housing complexes were implemented by applying various renewable energy sources and zero-energy building technologies such as solar, solar, geothermal, hydrothermal, and fuel cells.

▷Urban management platform
It is possible to remotely manage smart home devices and monitor energy use by linking the management of the entire complex's electricity and public facilities with smart home platforms by generation.

Meanwhile, Urban Tech House, which houses 19 startups and industry-academic research institutes, will also be operated near the smart village.

Through this, companies operating in Urban Tech House will participate in the Living Lab program of Smart Village so that they can demonstrate and improve innovative technologies and use them to discover business models.

Meanwhile, at the end of this month, a public-private SPC private sector participating company contest process will also be held to create a national pilot city in Busan.

Companies that want to participate in the Busan Smart City National Demonstration must submit a letter of intent and a business plan according to the public offering procedure.

Kim Bok-hwan, head of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "I sincerely congratulate residents for their entry into the smart city," adding, "Smart Village is a miniature version of the national pilot city that combines various innovative technologies and the Busan Metropolitan Government and the Korea Water Resources Corporation.
