Goheung-gun (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on December 14 that it has begun the construction of the "Demonstration Support Center for Drone Commercialization."
Goheung-gun, the home of the space center that successfully launched Korea's first space rocket "Naro," was selected as the site of the "5G-based drone-based smart farming demonstration and diffusion project" earlier this month.
The 5G-based Smart Farming Demonstration and Diffusion Project will get 16.4 billion won (National Cost 80, Dobie 32, Arms 48, and Civilization 4) in a four-year plan from 2020 to 2023 in Goheung Aviation Center to build unmanned drone management system facilities and drone performance evaluation equipment based on 5G communication.
The drone commercialization demonstration support center has a total floor area of 1,180 and will have a wind controllability tester, a saltwater environment chamber, a drone GPS and sensor verification simulator, a 3D printer construction space for carbon, and an open-Lab/Pilot room.
Goheung-gun will also build an integrated drone control system, 3D and multi-channel big data system, lidar for drones, hyperspectral cameras, thermal imaging cameras, multi-spectrum cameras, and unmanned charging stations in Goheung Drone Center, which construction completed in August.
Goheung-gun will also build the nation's only drone 5G dedicated network by next year, and a 'Four Seasons Smart Farming Platform' will be built using 5G-based drones through a 'Farming Big Data System' that can store and process farming data and image processing information collected in real time by 5G communication-based drones in agricultural cultivation areas such as rice, garlic, onion, and citron.
“If we build a 5G-based demonstration base for drone manufacturing through the implementation of Smart Farming and Diffusion Project using 5G-based drones with Jeollanam-do and Jeonnam Techno Park, we will be able to create great synergy with the infrastructure of the drone industry registered in Goheung Drone Center, so we are confident that Goheung will become a center of the drone industry in Korea,” said Song Gwi-geun, Governor of Goheung-gun.
