Hyundai Motor Group will hold the 2021 HMG Developer Conference online for two days from November 10 to 11.
Under the theme of "Journey for Smart Mobility Solution," the conference is a large-scale technology communication festival organized by Hyundai Motor Group to share R&D know-how and future technology with internal and external developers.
In this session, a total of 70 outstanding developers were selected through preliminary public offerings and screening from four Hyundai Motor Group companies (Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai AutoEver) and five promising startups (MOBINN, Mesh Korea, Super Move, Mobile Tech, and MayEye) will present the latest technologies on 50 topics.
Prior to the full-fledged conference, Hyundai Motor Group's lead developers will give speeches. First, Albert Bierman, president and head of R&D, will give the opening speech.
Choo Kyoung-woong, managing director of electronics, will introduce innovative technologies such as E-GMP, hydrogen fuel cell, high-performance N brand, connected car, and robotics, which are dedicated to electric cars, and will present how these technologies can change our lives.
Mr. Choo has developed Android Auto, which is installed in Hyundai Motor and Kia products, in cooperation with Google. Currently, he is in charge of the development of electronic technology including infotainment, connected car and controller.
Jang Woong-joon, managing director of the autonomous driving business, who is the chief strategic officer of Aptiv, a US autonomous driving company, and Hyundai Motor's joint venture, Motional, will also introduce the current status of autonomous driving software technology and development direction.
Hyun Dong-jin, managing director of Robotics Lab, who was a doctor of robotics and oversees the development of wearable robot VEX, CEX, and service robot DAL-e, will also present the necessity of robotics technology and the blueprint of major robotics technology currently under development.
In addition, a number of leaders who are in charge of development at the core technology research and development field of Hyundai Motor Group will make an announcement, including Bae Hyun-joo, managing director of the Chassis Control Development Office, Kwon Hae-young, managing director of the Infotainment Development Office.
Moreover, the announcement of the keynote of Song Chang-hyun, an IT and software expert, is scheduled to give a keynote speech. Song, who is currently the head of Hyundai Motor and Kia TaaS, is the world's top expert with the latest technology development experience in global IT companies such as Apple and Microsoft.
Mr. Song led the establishment of Naver Labs through Naver's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and played a key role in planning and settling the Naver Devue (DEVIEW), one of the representative success stories of the domestic developer conference.
Song will present a general vision of how Hyundai Motor Group will shape the 'TaaS (Transportation as a Service)', which is becoming important in the field of smart mobility, through the announcement of the keynote at this conference.
In particular, Song will mainly present the future of TaaS, which enables anyone to experience safe and convenient freedom of movement by connecting people, objects, and networks through software that connects mobility, autonomous driving, eco-friendly energy, big data, and services.
The special lectures by MIT scholars in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are also planned. Professor Daniela L. Rus, director of the MIT Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (MIT CSAIL), an advisor to the AI field of Hyundai Motor Group, will give a special lecture on the current state of technology in RoboTaxi, and Professor Song Han of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of MIT, which is conducting joint research on AI industry-academia related to autonomous driving, will give a special lecture on machine learning and deep learning.
President of Innovation Ji Young-jo will introduce the DR (Developer Relations) activity plan of Hyundai Motor Group for various communication with developers in the future along with the overall review of the whole event.
