- A public offering for smart technology support projects for life-friendly urban regeneration - A project is expected to solve problems such as safe walking and shared parking with smart technology in declining areas - 15 locations were selected and up to 500 million won of government funding will be invested next year

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Roh, Hyung-wook) has launched a contest for the "smart technology support project for life-friendly urban regeneration " for declining and aging areas that are in the urban regeneration process.

The smart technology support project for life-friendly urban regeneration aims to solve local problems and improve settlement conditions by establishing smart services linked to regeneration projects, and through this contest, a total of 15 business sites will be selected to provide up to 500 million won per site next year.

The main support targets for the public offering project are four areas with high needs of residents: △ safety & firefighting, △ transportation, △ energy & environment, and △ life & welfare. Smart services that meet local needs will be selected and supported by deriving them in a bottom-up method through collecting opinions from residents.

Examples of major life-friendly smart services proposed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport are as follows.

❶ Safety & firefighting: Smart Disaster Forecast and Warning System

The smart forecast and warning service system is to ensure safety by automatically blocking the entrance of the river when the water level rises through the water gauge.

In addition, using the collected water level data, disaster forecasts and warning broadcasts should be transmitted as a prediction of disaster occurrence in advance, and text messages should be sent to low-lying ground residents to enable rapid evacuation.

❷ Transportation: Smart Safe Walking

Intelligent CCTVs and speed violation alarms are built on existing transportation facilities to display speeding vehicles and pedestrian access information in blind spots on electronic boards to induce safe driving of drivers.

It is expected that crime prevention effects will be achieved by ensuring pedestrian safety through voice guidance devices and intensive crosswalk lighting and combining crime prevention devices such as emergency bells.

➌ Energy & Environment: Smart Clean Road

Smart Clean Road operates with stations that measure temperature and humidity and automatically control sprinklers on roads according to environmental changes to alleviate heat island phenomena.

Compared to sprinkler trucks, the sprinkling cycle is shortened and it can be operated at all times per year, so it is also usable in road cleaning.

❹ Life & Welfare: Smart Rest Area

A smart shelter with various smart technologies such as a fine dust air dome, digital signage, public Wi-Fi, and a thermal bench will be created near the promenade, and it will be operated as a place where local residents can gather and spend leisure time outdoors.

The application period for the "2022-Life-Friendly Urban Regeneration Smart Technology Support Project" will be from November 25 to November 26, and the result will be announced at the end of December after evaluation by a committee composed of experts in related fields.

“Smart services are essential not only for new cities but also for declining and aging areas to improve living conditions”, said Kim Kyu-chul, head of the Urban Regeneration Project Planning Group at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. He also said, "We hope that each local government will actively discover sustainable smart services that local residents can experience easily."

Meanwhile, details such as evaluation criteria and writing forms for the contest can be found through the selection announcement and application guidelines posted on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's website (www.molit.go.kr) or the Urban Regeneration Information System (www.city.go.kr).
