A "standard map" classified by process area and technology field where small and medium-sized companies can easily utilize standards for smart factories has been released.

Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS, Minister Kwon Chil-seung) announced that it has created a standard map for smart factories by bringing together smart manufacturing-related standards to strengthen the standard competitiveness of smart factory suppliers and spread smart factories using standards.

Although convergence and connection between technologies are important for smart factories, domestic smart factories have been built mainly on individual products and technologies, so compatibility problems between facilities, systems, and data have often hindered the advancement of smart factories.

In addition, more than 99% of smart factory-related standards were established by various international institutions and organizations such as the International Standard Organization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and the Manufacturer's Solution Association (MESA), making it very difficult for domestic SMEs.

Accordingly, the MSS consulted experts from the Standards Technical Advisory Committee so that SMEs can easily utilize standards for smart factories. As of 2019, a total of 2,011 smart factory standards, including 1,314 international standards, 4 national standards, and 693 de facto standards, were released in five process areas, including production facilities, transmission control, data collection, factory management, and corporate operation management.

The standard map of smart factories consists of a total of six chapters, including a comprehensive map showing the entire five process areas as one sheet and five detailed maps for each process area.

In addition, each process area was divided into six major technology fields, and importance (mark with the asterisks one to three) considering market utilization, scalability, and the latest technologies were displayed together.

Only representative standards of importance were presented in the comprehensive map, and all standards in the area were displayed on the detailed map by process area.

The MSS expects that the smart factory standard map released this time will be a milestone for SMEs to easily utilize standards and secure interoperability using standards.

Park Jong-chan, head of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Planning Division at the MSS, said, "We expect the standard map of smart factories to serve as an opportunity to increase interest and utilization of standards by domestic companies."

Meanwhile, "Smart Factory Standard Map" can be received free of charge by anyone from the Smart Factory Business Management System (www.smart-factory.kr) and Digital Library (library.smart-factory.kr).
