Metaverse has recently become a hot issue around the world. Now, ordinary people and beginners can be " Metaverse" developers.
The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lim, Hye-sook) will hold the ‘2021 Metaverse Developer Competition’.
The ‘2021 Metaverse Developer Competition’ will be held for the first time this year in order to find creative talents who will become the main axis of the Metaverse ecosystem and expand the base of the Metaverse industry. It will be led by ‘Metaverse Alliance’, the private-led and government-supported institution which was formed in May. The competition will recruit participants by August 31, open a briefing session in September and select 20 winners in November.
Any university students and ordinary people who are interested in metaverse are able to participate in the event, and the final 20 outstanding teams will be selected to receive 94 million won in the prize, Science and ICT Minister's Award (1 point), Korea Association President's Award (4 points), and sponsor's CEO Award (15 points).
In particular, it is drawing attention as it will run introductory metaverse development and basic education courses so that beginners who are new to metaverse development can also challenge, and provide technical support to solve questions in the development process.
In addition, teams that go to the finals will be provided with opportunities to advance development results and increase the possibility of commercialization through one-on-one expert consultation for about two weeks.
The competition fields are divided into student and general sectors. They are divided into 'designated tasks' that utilize software writing tools of domestic companies such as Maxst, Seers Lab, Hello Apps, and UT Plus, and 'free tasks' type without format restrictions.
'Designation Tasks' segment develops content and services using software development tools provided by alliance participating companies. In order to promote the performance in conjunction with the Alliance, the winners will be given additional benefits such as joint commercialization opportunities with the sponsor company or additional points and internship opportunities.
“For the sustainable development of the metaverse, it is important to create an ecosystem in which various contents and services are developed on platforms,” said Kim Jung-sam, a software policy officer at the Ministry of Science and ICT. “We expect that young developers with creative thinking and enthusiasm will be introduced into the metaverse ecosystem and become the driving force for the metaverse industry.”
Meanwhile, details of the competition can be found through the Ministry of Science and ICT's announcement and the Korea Radio Promotion Association's announcement, and applications can be made online on the Metaverse Developer Competition website (www.metaversedev.kr).
